Lionel Messi’s recent visit to India came with a hefty price tag, according to Indian media reports, though the exact amount paid to the Argentine football star has not been officially disclosed.
Several Indian media outlets reported that Messi’s appearance fee for the multi-city promotional visit was estimated at between 100 and 150 crore Indian rupees (approximately $12 million to $18 million). Neither Messi’s representatives nor the event organisers have publicly confirmed the figure.
The visit, which included public appearances and promotional events, drew massive attention across India, particularly in cities with large football followings. Organisers offered a range of ticketed events, including meet-and-greet sessions, which were priced at premium rates.
Media reports said fans were charged close to 1 million rupees (about $12,000) for photo opportunities and brief interactions with the World Cup-winning captain, while exclusive closed-door meet-and-greet access for corporate guests reportedly cost significantly more.
Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, currently plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. His visit to India was billed as a promotional tour rather than a competitive football event.
The organisers have not released a detailed financial breakdown of the tour, and it remains unclear how much of the reported revenue was paid directly to Messi versus covering logistics, security, travel and event production costs.
