American golfer Grayson Murray dies at the age of 30

American golfer Grayson Murray has died at the age of 30, the PGA Tour announced.

The two-time winner on the tour had withdrawn from this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge event on Friday due to illness, after playing 16 holes of his second round.

“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said.

“We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Commissioner Monahan continued.

“They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes,” he added.

Grayson Murray’s parents have revealed that their 30-year-old son took his own life, just one day after he withdrew from a PGA Tour event.
