Sri Lanka has been hit with a 30% tariff by the United States, part of a broader package affecting six other nations, President Donald Trump announced on July 9 .
Under the new measures, imports from Sri Lanka will see duties rise to 30%, effective from August 1
The US also imposed the same 30% tariffs on Algeria, Iraq, and Libya, while Brunei and Moldova face 25%, and the Philippines 20%

These tariffs will come into effect from August 1. This move comes just a day after Trump unveiled a sweeping round of import tariffs of up to 40% on goods from 14 nations, including key trade players such as Bangladesh, Japan, and South Korea. The US President appears to be ramping up his tough-on-trade stance as part of his broader economic agenda.
