Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) named an 18-man squad for the first of two Tests against Bangladesh at Galle and Colombo respectively. The first match of the series will be the final Test of Angelo Mathews’s career, the veteran having called time on his career last month.
The Sri Lankan Test side is transition following Mathews’s retirement, as well as that of opening batter Dimuth Karunaratne earlier this year. A total of 04 uncapped players have made the cut for this match. Elsewhere, there is a recall for spinner Akila Dananjaya, whose last Test came in 2019.
The two match test series will commence on 17th June 2025 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

SLC’s release made special mention of fast bowler Lahiru Kumara, stating that he was “selected but will not play as he has suffered an injury during practices.”
The four uncapped players are:
- Pawan Rathnayake
- Pasindu Sooriyabandara
- Lahiru Udara
- Tharindu Rathnayake
Additionally, Sonal Dinusha, who was part of the squad earlier in the Australia series, is retained, but he’s already been capped.
