Disney will build its seventh theme park, this one in the United Arab Emirates, the entertainment company announced on Wednesday.
The waterfront resort will be built on Yas Island on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, already home to Formula One’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Ferrari and Warner Bros. amusement parks, SeaWorld and a waterpark.
Disney already has six theme parks spanning North America, Europe and Asia. Its most recent opening was in 2016 in Shanghai.
The company’s first theme park, Disneyland, opened in Anaheim, California in 1955. It was followed in 1971 by Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
International expansion began in 1983 with a park in Tokyo; Disneyland Paris opened in 1992, then came Hong Kong in 2005 and, most recently, Shanghai in 2016.
What will be at Disneyland Abu Dhabi?
It will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines and breathtaking architecture.
The resort will be fully developed and built by Miral, while Disney’s Imagineers will lead the creative design and operational insight.
It will offer signature Disney entertainment, themed accommodations, unique dining and retail experiences, as well as storytelling that celebrates the heritage of Disney and the cultural essence of Abu Dhabi
An opening date for the Disney Theme Park has yet to be announced, so keep an eye on Time Out Dubai for all the latest updates.
The Disneyland Abu Dhabi resort will become Disney’s seventh global resort destination.
