India secure maiden World Cup triumph with 52-run victory
It began with a wonderful opening stand of 51 between Brits and Wolvaardt. Once Brits departed the scene, Wolvaardt continued her lone hand. She had further support from Luus (25) and Dercksen (35) through the middle overs.
But India continue to take wickets at crucial intervals, with Deepti leading the way with figures of 5 for 39. Shafali, after setting the tone with her 87 at the top of the order, also contributed with two key wickets of her own.
Wolvaardt did manage to get to three figures, but perished soon after. India then got over the line by claiming the important wicket of de Klerk at the end.
