Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is widely expected to attend the grand opening of City of Dreams Sri Lanka on August 2, 2025, according to sources close to the organisers, though an official confirmation is yet to be made.

The event will mark the launch of South Asia’s first fully integrated luxury resort, a landmark development by John Keells Holdings PLC in collaboration with Melco Resorts & Entertainment. The project, valued at USD 1.2 billion, is the single largest private sector investment in Sri Lanka’s luxury and lifestyle sector.

Speculation about Khan’s attendance has been fuelled by teaser campaigns across the official social media channels of City of Dreams Sri Lanka and Cinnamon Life, which reference a “special someone” and describe the upcoming appearance as “iconic.” One post even features a silhouetted figure striking a pose famously associated with the actor, sparking excitement among fans.

The City of Dreams development features a world-class casino, the ultra-luxurious Nüwa Hotel, and a premium retail mall, and is set to redefine Colombo’s place on the global entertainment and tourism map.

The opening is expected to attract a high-profile guest list of international celebrities, investors, and media, marking a symbolic moment in Sri Lanka’s post-crisis resurgence in tourism and leisure.
