India on Wednesday launched a major diplomatic offensive against Pakistan, such as the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and downgraded ties with the neighbouring country following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.
The 05 measures, announced by the India government, came after a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack – one of the worst attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past.
- Indus Water Treaty has been kept in abeyance.
- Pakistani nationals will get no SAARC visas.
- The Atari border with Pakistan will be shut.
- India will withdraw staff from its high commission in Pakistan.
- The current visas of Pakistani nationals under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) have been cancelled, and they must leave within 48 hours.
